Skills for Success is a new, improved educational program beginning across NDG in January, 2019. Our purpose is to transfer five key skills to our students by the time they graduate from middle school. These five skills include: Spanish literacy, math and science, technology skills, English language competency, and the building of emotional-intelligence which will serve them in all areas of life.
As of January, 2019, we began providing 7.5 hours of English language learning to our pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students, with first graders also receiving extra hours along with English reinforcement in the afternoons.
As part of this initiative, all school staff are receiving training in advanced English skills and utilizing them daily in the classroom with their students. New school books will support our English teachers in providing the best content possible, and the additional help of volunteers, (many of whom are native or advanced English speakers), will also help to make this Dual Immersion Program a success.
We provide our students and their families with a Family Support Program, including: social work visits, therapy, and self-esteem programs.
This program is fundamental to the change that we are trying to bring to the communities we serve. Our students and their families depend on these programs to acquire skills regarding basic health and hygiene and other knowledge that improves the family’s wellbeing.
